Fantastic website. The only info I had previously on Earltown is the book by G.R Sutherland "The Rise & Decline of Earltown" which has been of great help to me. My mother's ggparents were William (Achlean)McKay & Elizabeth Sutherland and they lived on Cline Rd. They had 8 children: John b. 5/18/1845, Isabella b. 8/25/1846, Katie b. 4/7/1848 (my ggmother) who moved to MA, William b.1/1/1850 and moved to MA, Margaret b. 10/28/1851, Angus b. 4/26/1853 & moved to MA, Annie b.8/18/1855 & moved to MA, Robert b. 11/9/1900 who also moved to Massachusets. I note in yr sumation of the Achlean MacKays that their great grandchildren were among the last of Gaelic speakers in the Earltown district. Glen- Our first visit to your site and having done some HTML stuff myself the quality and amount of work is obvious.. . well done! We have just started tracing our roots and as newbies sites like yours amaze us and provide information we would have never realized. The last three or four weeks have been mainly getting started and today was a breakthrough day. We found my family (Fraser)on a Mcleod site and then that lead us to other sites and finally to yours. My grandfather was Simon Fraser, the son of John Fraser and Catherine Matheson from Pictou, NS. We are now beginning to fill in the blanks and owe some others the more recent information when we come across it. For example your site has Simon Fraser dyeing in Los Angeles before the 1900's and we found the census records for the US for 1900's and he was there. I never met my grandfather but my sister says he dies when my father was 5 years old (he was born in 1896) so that would make his death about 1901. He married Anna Taylor and they had two children. . . James Hartley Fraser born in Los Angeles in 1896 on 31 October 1896 and died in Sep of 1975 in Woodland, CA and Kathryn Martha Fraser also born in Los Angeles on February 16, 1901 and died on Feb 18 in LA. My mother, Marion URQUHART passed away in January and I began my search of the family tree- your website came to me from letting my "fingers do the walking" late last night. Just surfing trying to find lists of names form cementerys in the pictou area and colchester county. I was born in Pictou and raised in Tatamagouche, left there in 1966. I was adopted by the spinneys but my biological family was from Stellartonor pictou, or the near areas. I have some history which I got from a lady in stellarton a few years ago, her name is vangie way, lives in riverside. So i shall continue my search.

The Jollymore brothers, George and Peter, lived not far from Earlton at Brule Point and are listed as well in the Waugh's River census district. George, b. 1820 and Peter, b. 1830, both raised large families some of who emmigrated to Maryland and Wisconsin, respectively. Others, descendents of Archibald stayed for two generations in Tatamagouche. Other information is appreciated.
